The release includes updated firmware for HP StorageWorks LTO-4 Ultrium 1760 SAS tape drives.

HP StorageWorks Library and Tape Tools (HP L&TT) must be used to download firmware to the tape drive.

  • New functionality has been added to increase the drive’s robustness to variations in media. This will increase load time.

  • Drive tuning has been improved so that the tape drive is better able to read some tapes written by non-HP drives

  • Error rate counters are now cleared on a load rather than being cumulative after power-on

  • The number of retries is now extended if the Cartridge Memory cannot be read

  • Fixed a rare issue where a Write attribute command could cause datasets to be written beyond the End of Wrap (EOW) turnaround point

  • Differences are no longer observed between the power-on times reported in different Library & Tape Tools (L&TT) logs and the drive logs

  • The use of adjacent channel information during Spacing/Locating has been enabled to help prevent the reporting of 0x5090/0x5092 errors

  • Fixed an issue where a drive reset could occur when reading certain incorrectly formatted areas of data

Use HP StorageWorks Library & Tape Tools (L&TT) to update the tape drive firmware. You can download L&TT from http://www.hp.com/support/tapetools. Online help and instructions are included with the utility.

NOTE: Once the download has started, do NOT power off the unit or interrupt the firmware download process until the download is complete. Doing so could leave the product in a non-usable state.

The firmware files can also be obtained on the external HP support website: http://www.hp.com/support/storage . Select your product from the list and follow the instructions from the Web page. NOTE: If you have trouble finding your product or firmware, use the Product Search function from http//www.hp.com/support/downloads.

You can check your current firmware revision from HP Library & Tape Tools (L&TT). Launch L&TT, select the product from the lower left hand frame and click on the identity button at the top (if necessary).
